Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 Will Run In 1080p On Xbox One

The announcement is a huge step up from the 2015 version that ran in 720p. Could this be the breakthrough PES needs to contend with FIFA?

If we’re all being honest with each other, probably not. But it’s a big step in levelling the playing field, at least on Microsoft’s console. Although PES 2015 hit 1080p on Playstation 4, the limitations of the Xbox One put a stopper in the long running football game from competing graphically with FIFA.

The European Product Manager for Konami, Adam Bhatti, has said on twitter that the 2016 instalment of the game has hit 1080p on the Xbone.

For a long time, PES and FIFA ran neck and neck for the crown of greatest football game, a race that saw FIFA pull away with EA securing lucrative rights to naming and player likenesses. Despite often playing second fiddle PES has never given up the ghost, and has frequently become the preferred alternative to EA’s money making machine. Whilst it’s unlikely to overtake FIFA, 2016 could see PES taking a significant proportion of EA’s long undisputed title.
