iPhone users rejoice! PlayStation has finally enabled PS4 Remote Play for your devices, only four years after the feature was made available for Sony Xperia phones.
Obviously it makes sense that PlayStation would favour Sony devices first, but it’s great to see that iPhone and iPad owners can now enjoy the thrills of Remote Play thanks to firmware update 6.50.
The official app lets gamers stream PS4 titles directly to their devices, which is especially handy if your partner/parents/siblings are hogging the TV or if you just fancy playing Uncharted 4 on the toilet.
iOS users were previously able to enjoy the benefits of Remote Play, but only if they purchased a third party app. Handily, the official app is entirely free. All you need is a PS4 and an iPhone/iPad.
Okay, so it’s entirely free if you already own those admittedly expensive devices. You all know what I mean, though.
What other surprises come in the firmware 6.50 update then? Not a lot actually, which is a real shame given we’re still waiting on those promised PSN ID changes to come through. Given Sony said we’d be getting that much requested feature in early 2019, I imagine/hope it’ll come in the next update.
While this is undoubtedly a great day for iOS users, there’s also the inescapable fact that the PS4 has two, maybe three years of life left before the next generation of consoles launch, so I guess enjoy remote play while you can guys.
