Insomniac Games, the brains behind Ratchet & Clank, and Sunset Overdrive had a chat recently with Official PlayStation Magazine UK, and discussed what they love most about the PS4.
A shiny HD reboot of Ratchet & Clank is fittingly set to be the dev’s first PS4 title, so OPM UK asked Insomiac’s Ted Price what the company likes best about the console.
Price said:
Power. That’s the big one for us. And having a very large playerbase. We hope people who made the transition to PS4 love Sony’s franchises!
Going by the gameplay footage for the new Ratchet & Clank, it’s clear Insomniac have been utilising the PS4’s graphical oomph.
This reboot looks fucking lovely – kind of like a cross between a Pixar movie, and how I think I remember the original PS2 games looked. Of course, those games looked nothing like this, but nostalgia is a powerful tool.
Community boss James Stevenssen also chimed in to praise the PlayStation’s power, citing a cool new weapon called the Pixeliser as an example.
Stevenssen said:
It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while, but we’ve never had the horsepower to do it until the PS4. It’s funny how much horsepower you need to make that weapon work—to make something relatively lo-res.
Ratchet & Clank is a PlayStation 4 exclusive set for release in April, and will coincide with the launch of the movie, which may very well end up being the first videogame movie that isn’t shit.
