Red Dead Players Want Ability To Own Dogs As Companions

One of the best things about the epic, sprawling world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is that it’s full of different breeds of dogs for you to meet and pet (and shoot, if you’re a cold blooded serial killer in the making).

Unfortunately, while you can pet these puppers as much as you want, Rockstar decided against giving players the ability to own their very own Wild West doggo.

This makes sense from a plot perspective of course, given that Arthur and the gang spend most of the game running from the law and lying low, so owning a dog might not have been the smartest move – but risks be damned, I want a dog.

Clearly I’m not the only one who feels this way, as Reddit user Atmouspheric took to the Red Dead Redemption subreddit to ask if other players would be interested in owning a canine companion throughout their adventures.

They wrote:

If you could have a dog as a companion would you? I think it would be cool for hunting like the more time you spend with your horse or dog you could level up/improve their abilities. Since bonding is a thing.

The idea of naming, hunting, and bonding with your own dog in Red Dead sounds genuinely amazing to be honest, and the idea was met with a lot agreement from other Reddit users.

Although some did point out that they prefer playing as a lone gunman, there’d definitely be room in my Arthur Morgan’s life for a dog. I’d call him Boah.

While it’s unlikely we’ll ever see dog companions added into Red Dead Redemption 2’s main game, Rockstar could introduce the feature to the game’s free online mode.

The only real negative I can think of is the emotional turmoil I’d suffer if little Boah got gunned down by bandits or killed by a bear. I have a hard enough time dealing with it when my horse runs off a cliff.
