Following weeks of speculation and a leaked ‘PS4 Slim’ model, it’s now being reported that we will indeed be seeing two new PlayStation 4 models next month.
According to The Wall Street Journal, we’ll be getting a look at the long awaited PS4 4K model – also known as the PS4 Neo – as well as a new base model which could be the recently leaked PS4 Slim, early next month.
The WSJ cites “people familiar with the matter” in the report, suggesting that Sony will release the new model to “maintain demand” for the console.
Sony announced that an event would be held at the PlayStation Theatre in New York City on September 7, but hasn’t said exactly what for. It’s widely believed that the event will serve as a chance to publicly confirm the PS4 Neo.
The event will take place just one week before the Tokyo Games Show where it’s understood the console will be officially released to the public. Both the PS4 Neo and the PS4 Slim will be able to play all current and upcoming PS4 games, with the Neo offering a boost in performance for 4K gaming.
The PS4 Slim model was allegedly leaked when a seller on the trading site Gumtree put the model up for sale, but declined to say how they came into possession of the console. Somebody then bought it, took it home and set it up – apparently confirming its validity. Sony has yet to speak out on the leak, only saying that they “do not comment on rumour or speculation.”
That’s cleared that up then.
