Microsoft have already hinted that 2016 is going to be a big year for their Xbox One console, and now blogger Brad Sams may have let us in on some secrets.

Posting on Petri, Sams has unveiled some insider information that suggests a lightweight, cheaper version of the Xbox One will be winging its way to us some time in the new year.

He says:

I have heard from internal sources that the company is considering plans for a lightweight Xbox One that may only be for Windows store games and would compete with the Apple TV, but it’s not clear if these plans have been scrapped. A similar device was rumored around the initial Xbox One launch and those plans were put on hold but this device is said to be from a similar vein. If this device does materialize, it will not launch until the second half of the year and have a much lower price-point than the Xbox One.

While this is clearly not a confirmation of the machine, it does seem likely that the current crop of consoles will receive new iterations of themselves, as has been the case in the past.

GameSpot contacted Microsoft about the potential plans, with the response being that “We do not comment on rumor or speculation.” Well that settles that, then..
