Resident Evil 2 isn’t even out yet, but the fine folk at Capcom have already prepared us for a slew of new content that’ll be coming to the survival horror remake in a free post launch update.
ResetEra first spotted the news during a launch celebration livestream for the game in Japan. It seems that in addition to some brilliant retro style polygonal costumes for Leon and Claire, we’re also being treated to a new mode called Ghost Survivors.
Capcom said during the stream that this mysterious new mode will be fairly similar to the original game’s Extreme Battle mode. In Ghost Survivors you’ll be able to play through as a variety of characters as you explore a world with “randomised elements.” Capcom seem confident that there’ll be lots of replay value to be had with this mode.
Details are still fairly scarce on Ghost Survivors, but we do know that you can earn points as you play through, and there’ll be an in-game shop where you can grab new skins (and presumably new characters and weapons).
We also know that the new mode will be released in “volumes”, though it’s not entirely clear what that means. There are to be three volumes, with the first of these coming at a currently unknown date.
Meanwhile, the classic skins for Leon and Claire will be arriving for free in-game on March 22. Resident Evil 2 itself launches on January 25, as if you weren’t already counting the days.
