It was only a matter of time before decided to try and make the Resident Evil 2 remake even more horrifying than it already is by adding a first-person mode.
As if creeping through the dimly lit corridors of a zombie-infested RPD wasn’t harrowing enough with the relative dissonance afforded by the game being in third-person, those brave enough of heart can now fully immerse themselves in the gore soaked virtual world Capcom has made for us.
If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can download the mod from GitHub, or just watch other people suffer through the magic of YouTube. I personally had a hard enough time not soiling my trousers in third-person, so this first-person mode is a solid “nope” from me.
There are even options to adjust the FOV or toggle the vignette effect, so if you do suffer from a heart attack, you’ll at least know you perfectly adjusted the settings to make that happen.
For those that aren’t really a fan of the Resident Evil 7 approach and prefer something a little more… vintage, there’s also a fixed camera perspective mod in the works that makes the game feel much like the original Resi games – and a little less scary as a result, in my opinion.
Take a look at the first person mod below:
It’s official then; Resident Evil 2 will scare the poop out of you from literally any perspective. Hats off to Capcom for delivering a truly astounding game, and to the modders for finding ways to surprise us all.
