Italian indie developers InvaderGames have been working on Resident Evil 2: Reborn for close to 2 years, and now they’re nearly done.

The remake comes soon after Capcom released an official HD remaster of Resident Evil 1 on the Gamecube, but so far haven’t commented on the free-to-download offering that is set for release late this summer. Using new models, textures, camera angles and lighting, Resident Evil 2: Reborn will run in the Unreal Engine 4 and has generated a considerable amount of fan excitement.

17 years on from the release of the Playstation 1 classic, Insider Games are eagerly looking forward to the not-for-profit release. Although Capcom have been quiet about the project so far, they could stick a huge spanner in the works if they decide to lodge a copyright complaint which would force the Italian company to scrap all its hard work.

On the other hand though, they could allow the game to be made and enter into a partnership with the hugely talented dev team to make an official remake. I know which one I’d prefer.
