Resident Evil 2 Remake Reimagined With ‘Classic’ Fixed Camera Angles

Typical fandom. You give them a stellar reinvention of a survival horror classic like Resident Evil 2, and they’ll immediately turn around and try to make it how it was back in the PS One days.

YouTuber Enveloping Sounds (who credits jim2point0 for the free cam cheat table) has taken the claustrophobic over-the-shoulder camera that makes the Resi 2 remake so unsettling, and has replaced it the fixed camera angles of the original Resident Evil games.

The result is a very cool throwback to a different time in gaming. One where fixed camera angles were somehow an acceptable way to play games.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the classic Resi games, but I’ve always hated fixed cameras in horror games – I just don’t feel like they create an authentically terrifying experience, unlike the much more immersive first person of Resi 7 and over the shoulder view of the Resi 2 remake.

That’s not to say it’s not a cool video with a nice concept, mind. It’s awesome to see what Resident Evil 2 might have looked like if Capcom had given the original game a HD makeover in the same way they did with Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0, but I much prefer the completely new approach they for this game.

Check out the two videos for yourself below:

This is still just a concept for a mod at this point rather than a ready-to-release piece of work, but I’ve no doubt some survival horror purist out there will have a fully functioning fixed camera mod out before long.
