Resident Evil 3 Remake Will Happen, If Fans Want It

Following on from the stonking success of Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 Remake, the Japanese devs have seemingly left it open to fans as to whether or not we get a remake of the third game.

In a recent interview with Japanese website Game Watch, the Resi 2 Remake’s director Yoshiaki Hirabayashi admitted that the only reason the game got greenlit in the first place, was because fans were demanding it.

He then went on to say that there would only be a Resident Evil 3 remake if the fans wanted it and that they simply couldn’t do it without the fans’ permission. He’s a good bloke is our Hirabayashi.

So what do we have to do if we want a remake? Tell Capcom apparently. If players really enjoyed Resident Evil 2, ‘we can use that as a good indicator’. Thankfully, Resi 2 has indeed been well received.

But what of the timeline for a release? Well, the original games were released only one year apart, and they did reuse a lot of the same assets. It’s highly unlikely that we’ll get one by 2020 as games take a heck of a lot longer to make these days. That and we’ve also got Resident Evil 8 to think about.

More likely, we’ll see new games and remakes on a 24 month cycle. So, as Resident Evil 2 Remake was released in 2019, we’ll see Resident Evil 8 in 2021, then Resident Evil 3 in 2023 and so on.

Great to hear that Capcom are willing to listen to their fans when it comes to this kind of thing, and I for one would welcome our new Jill Valentine overlord. Resident Evil 3 Remake will happen, if fans want it.
