Not content with causing outrage at Rise of the Tomb Raider being a year long Microsoft exclusive, Square Enix have just opened up a can of whoop-ass on themselves by putting in microtransactions.
The timed Xbox One exclusive will feature blind card packs, like the ‘Expedition Cards’, that will “enhance” the game with things like new character skins, costumes, big head mode and higher bullet resistance perks.
The game will include a Score Attack mode, where you chain together a high score by killing enemies and performing certain tasks. Just like the Tomb Raider we know and love. You’ll also be able to try Remnant Resistance, where you use your Expedition Cards to create scenarios with various enemies and items, and challenge your friends to play them online.
These Expedition Cards are bought with in-game credits that can be accumulated through gameplay – at a grind, most likely – or purchased with cold hard cash. Each pack will contain a variety of single-use common cards and multi-use foil cards – 300 of which will be available at launch with more to be added.
There’s also a Rise of the Tomb Raider season pass that includes: Extreme Mode, a new tomb to raid, a wave-mode and “in-game content”.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will release exclusively on Xbox One on November 10, followed by Windows PC in early 2016, and Playstation 4 late 2016.
