Rockstar Hint At Possible GTA Remasters

By :

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company behind GTA developer Rockstar Games has revealed that they wouldn’t rule out remastering PS2 Grand Theft Auto titles.

However, the company did stress that it would never happen if it was “just to make a few bucks”, and would have to be something special to warrant a remaster.

CEO Strauss Zelnick said during an earnings call:

We would start by saying, ‘Will this be exciting to consumers, will they be happy with it, will it reflect well on our brand, will it reflect well on our company? And if the answer is yes, then it may well be a compelling opportunity. But if the answer is indifferent or no then even if we have an opportunity to make a few bucks we probably would decline. I think that’s the lens through which we look, the actual decisions are made by the labels [Rockstar and 2K].

In the same earnings call, it was revealed that Grand Theft Auto 5 has shipped 65 million copies, so they clearly don’t need to make a “quick buck” any time soon.

It was also announced that Rockstar are working on a new projects, which we’ll learn more about soon.

To be honest, I’m sure Rockstar could announce a straight HD remake of either GTA San Andreas or Vice City and the fans would eat it up, but it’d be much cooler to revisit those awesome titles with some kind of twist.

Then again, there are some pretty gorgeous mods knocking around that make a pretty solid argument for San Andreas HD…

Of course, I’d rather Rockstar get cracking on GTA 6 personally – but if a PS2 remaster every materializes, I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up.
