Rockstar Games, the developer behind Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption is “hard at work” on new projects, with an announcement coming soon, according to parent company Take-Two Interactive.
This filthy tease comes as part of Take-Two’s latest earnings report, and with E3 on the horizon, one would imagine that something massive is coming.
While Take-Two stopped short of sharing any real details, they did say:
Rockstar Games is of course hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon.
Take-Two president Karl Slatoff did mention during an earnings call that the company is working on a new IP to diversify that sweet portfolio, but it’s not clear if Rockstar are working on that new IP, or a more familiar franchise.
It’s also worth noting that CEO Strauss Zelnick said on the call that Take-Two has announced its complete slate for the current fiscal year, and no Rockstar titles are on it. So whatever their new game is, don’t expect it for a while.
Zelnick has also recently teased big plans for E3, and back in April a map that was believed to be for a new Red Dead game leaked online.
I think it’s safe to say that a Red Dead sequel would fall under “big plans” and would likely win E3 hands down.
It’s also important to note that Take-Two mentioned projects, plural. So, it could be that they’re working on a number of sequels to familiar games and a new IP. Whatever the games turn out to be, I’m sure they’ll be awesome.
