Skyrim Eight Person Multiplayer Mod Enters Closed Beta

While Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online might have left some gamers thinking that a Bethesda title is best enjoyed without friends, I maintain the concept still has potential.

You can always trust modders to get right whatever Bethesda managed to get wrong though, so I’m super excited to try Skyrim Together, a co-op mod that lets you play Skyrim with up to seven chums. It’s finally entering a closed beta trial after years of hard work.

A dev post in the mod’s subreddit explained:

Yep, it’s finally happening. Soon we’ll be opening the doors for our loyal patreons for a temporary closed beta – Don’t fear, this will shortly available for all.

The closed beta will be used to test stability and make fixes, with an open beta for everyone arriving a week or two later, according to the team. While the current cap is eight players max, the developers have said this could be increased if the demand is there.

While Bethesda hasn’t shut the project down, it will need its own launcher as the publisher doesn’t want the mod to be available on Steam. Still, in a time where every promising fan project is canned, I’m happy this one is allowed to continue.

Like most of you, I’ve already explored every inch of Skyrim’s mountains, tombs, and ruins… but the prospect of doing it all over again with friends is just too good to pass up, so I guess I’ve been sucked in to Bethesda’s magical open world yet again.
