Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Confirmed For 2018, World Collectively Shrugs

Because everyone knows videogame movies are always quality, Oscar worthy pieces of genius, it seems SEGA want in on the action – they’re bringing Sonic The Hedgehog to the big screen in 2018. No, really.

Sonic has literally been hanging on to the tiny scraps of respect the world had left for him, getting by on a combination of nostalgia and pity. It seems SEGA want to steam roll right over that respect by making a film that will be a blend of CG and live action.

Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie scheduled for release in 2018. Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.

Knowing Sony, they’ll probably be looking to branch out into a shared Sonic movie universe. Get ready for the gritty Eggman origin story, the action packed Tails solo flick, and a Rocky style take on Knuckles.

Maybe it seems harsh to judge a film before we’ve seen a single frame – but Sonic can’t even manage a good game these days, so how can anyone expect him to be the guy that finally gets the videogame film right? It’s a notoriously shitty genre, as we well know.

No word on casting yet, but rumours abound that Benedict Cucumberpatch is currently sleeping under piles of leaves to get into character.
