We finally have our first official look at the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movie starring Ben Schwartz.

IGN shared the upcoming’s film’s first motion poster in an exclusive reveal.

The poster, which can you see below, teases a much more realistic looking Sonic than we’re used to – just look at those leg muscles. I’m as disturbed as I am intrigued by it, to be honest.

Sonic The Hedgehog will be SEGA’s first attempt at bringing their speedy mascot to the big screen. They’re working with Paramount Pictures, and it’ll be directed by Jeff Fowler.

Parks and Recreations‘s Ben Schwartz, meanwhile, will be the voice of the blue hedgehog himself, while Jim Carrey takes on the role of the villainous Dr Robotnik (or Eggman depending on the decade you were born, I guess).

The film will blend a CG Sonic with the real world as the hedgehog ends up on the modern day Earth and teams up with small town cop Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) to take on Robotnik and cause all kinds of chaos, I imagine.

IGN spoke to the production team behind Sonic’s design and talked through some of their choices.

Despite the fact we haven’t seen him in all his glory yet, they teased a little bit about what we can expect, and revealed the biggest struggle in creating a realistic Sonic was the character’s cartoony eyes.

In fact, it turns out they had to make a change to Sonic’s bulbous peepers that SEGA initially wasn’t happy with.

They told IGN:

I don’t think SEGA was entirely happy with the eye decision, but these sorts of things you go, ‘It’s going to look weird if we don’t do this.’ But everything is a discussion, and that’s kind of the goal, which is to only change what’s necessary and stay true to the rest of it.

Sonic The Hedgehog will be speeding into cinemas on November 8, 2019. I honest to God have no idea if I’m ready for this one.
