It was recently discovered that Sony had snuck a PS2 emulator onto the PS4 in an update, and they’ve now announced the first few games available to play as of today.

To start with, there are only a few titles available to buy through the Playstation Store – yes, you’ll have to buy the titles, even if you own them on PS2 already – but Sony have said it’s just the start of what they plan to be a main feature of the console.

SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said via the Playstation Blog yesterday:

I’m excited to announce that starting tomorrow, you will be able to purchase and play PS2 games on your PS4 via PlayStation Store in the Americas and Europe.

The games now available are:

– Dark Cloud – $14.99 (about £10)

– Grand Theft Auto III – $14.99 (about £10)

– Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – $14.99 (about £10)

– Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – $14.99 (about £10)

– Rogue Galaxy – $14.99 (about £10)

– The Mark of Kri – $14.99 (about £10)

– Twisted Metal: Black – $9.99 (about £7)

– War of the Monsters – $9.99 (about £7)

All the games now carry trophy achievements, are up-rendered to 1080p and utilise Playstation 4-specific features like Live Broadcast, Share Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for game manuals via the Vita or PlayStation App.

Shuhei Yoshida also said that PS2 games will be coming to the PS4 with “new releases on a regular basis.”
