Rumours continue to fly this way and that regarding big hardware upgrades for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, so it’s a little surprising to discover that the PlayStation 5 isn’t actually a foregone conclusion.
At least, this is according to Game Informer’s Lorne Lanning. He revealed in the latest Game Informer Show that he had a very interesting private dinner with PlayStation president Shuhei Yoshida during this year’s DICE event, where Lanning asked about the PlayStation 5.
Lanning revealed:
I said, ‘What does the PlayStation 5 look like?’ And he said, ‘You mean if…’ And I was like, ‘Whoa. Are you willing to say that on stage?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, it’s an if.
Considering all this talk of PlayStation 4.5 and Xbox 1.5, it is possible that we could be in the final generation of consoles, with Microsoft and Sony simply offering optional ways for the consumer to beef up the current gen, rather than invest in entirely new consoles and exclusives.
However, while the PS4.5 seems all but confirmed at this point, things are much more unclear with the Xbox 1.5. Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently shot down the idea of a halfway point, saying he’d much rather go forward in big numbers.
