Sony has finally gone on record to confirm that yes, they’re definitely currently working on a successor to the PS4. They didn’t say it was the PS5, but come on – it’s the PS5.

PlayStation boss, Kenichiro Yoshida, recently spoke to The Financial Timeswhere he revealed what we all pretty much knew to be true already.

I mean seriously, it’s not like there was never going to be a PlayStation 5, right?

Yoshida really didn’t give much away, but his vague and guarded comment seems to pretty much confirm the PS4 follow up is in the works over at Sony.

He said:

At this point, what I can say, is it’s necessary to have a next-generation hardware.

Of course, a PS4 successor was always on the cards – but Yoshida’s comment serves as something of a confirmation following years of speculation and teases from other Sony top brass.

Many industry analysts seem to agree the next lot of Xbox and PlayStation consoles will arrive by 2020, so we could even see an announcement soon.

According to sources who’ve spoken to The Financial Timesthe PS5 seems like it won’t be a ‘major departure’ from the PS4, and how the system’s fundamental architecture would be similar.

It’s not a lot to go on for now, but it’s enough of a reason to get excited. With Sony working on a new PlayStation and Microsoft allegedly already working on the mysterious Xbox Scarlett, who knows what the future holds for console gaming?

Microsoft recently announced a brand new streaming service which will allow you to play Xbox games on mobile devices, while Sony already has the PlayStation Now service.

Many have speculated how any future consoles from either company will certainly place a heavy emphasis on streaming console quality games to multiple devices.

For now, all we can do is wait. Wait, and hope that when the PS5 is announced, Sony has the backbone to announce Bloodborne 2 as a launch title.
