Sony File Patent For New PlayStation Glove Controller

By :

Sony have filed new patents for a PlayStation gaming glove to crush your enemies (and presumably to work with PlayStation VR). Has enough time passed since Nintendo’s disastrous Power Glove failed to revolutionize the NES? Sony obviously think so.

The patents were filed with the United States Patent & Trademark office in 2014, but were only just published publicly this week. NeoGAF picked up on ’em, and shared the images. Obviously, filing a patent is by no means confirmation of a product – but it’s cool to see the kind of stuff Sony are looking at.

The exact patents are:

The description for the glove mentions that it has a flex sensor to identify and track finger positions, as well as a contact sensor to make sure contact is being made. This is all in aid of giving users the best experience of having a hand, outside of using your own hand.

The patent covers gaming, entertainment, sporting activities, masturbation, and human-to-human contact such as a simulated handshake. I slipped a fake one in there, go back and see if you can tell which.

In the meantime, I remember Nintendo’s fallen Power Glove. How, in this age of technological wonderment, will Sony ever manage to beat a shit bit of plastic from the 80s? We’ll just have to wait and see.
