Todd McFarlane, one of the men behind Spidey villain Venom and creator of Spawn is under the impression that the latter of his creations will be joining the fight in Mortal Kombat 11.
The comic book artist and writer was asked during a reddit AMA whether or not he’d let Spawn be a part of the upcoming Mortal Kombat, to which he responded “I believe he’s on his way.”
While this isn’t an official confirmation, you’d have to imagine that if McFarlane is under the impression that Spawn will be appearing in Mortal Kombat 11, then the developers have likely already approached him to get permission to use the character.
For those who aren’t aware, Spawn was created 1992. He was a US Marine who’s murdered by his best friend and sent to hell. Before long, he makes a deal with a demon, selling his soul so he can return to earth to see his wife. It’s all very 90’s.
Unfortunately, he returns as a demon with little memory of his old life. That right there is why you don’t make deals with demons, friends. Let this be a lesson to all of you.
In fact, the demonic antihero was actually supposed to appear in the last Mortal Kombat, but McFarlane revealed that the deal being worked out with Warner Bros fell through for whatever reason.
Second time lucky though, right?
We’ve already seen the likes of Alien, Kratos, Predator, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, and Freddy Krueger in Mortal Kombat, so Spawn would feel right at home. Meanwhile, fans are petitioning for Doomguy to get in on the action too, which would be all kinds of awesome.
Mortal Kombat 11 is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 23, 2019. I sincerely hope Spawn finds his way into the roster to kick some butt.
