Well this is a nice surprise; Sony revealed at E3 that Insomniac Games are currently working on a PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game, and it looks good.
Insomniac of course, are the studio behind incredible games like Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank, so it’s safe to assume that the wall-crawler is in pretty good hands.
Marvel’s official description:
Marvel and Insomniac Games have teamed up to create a brand-new and authentic Spider-Man story. This isn’t the Spider-Man you’ve met before, or seen in a movie. This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in New York City. At the same time he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of nine million New Yorkers rests upon his shoulders.
We’re also promised a combat system that makes the most of Peter Parker’s spidery abilities, “blockbuster set pieces”, and a whole lot of web slinging.
Spidey’s previous videogame offerings have ranged from great, to kind of crappy. The 2004 Spider-Man 2 movie tie in was an open world gem that absolutely nailed it.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 from 2012 meanwhile, arguably made getting from A to B more fun than it’s ever been in a superhero game, but dropped the ball with combat, story, and pretty much anything else you can think of.
Check out the first teaser below. I’m not sure about that costume at all, but I’ve no doubt there’ll be bonus costumes we can unlock, so I’ll get over it.
No word on a release date yet, but here’s hoping Insomniac and Marvel can put together a superhero game to rival Batman’s excellent Arkham trilogy.
