The Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation of Spider-Man might well have turned to dust along with half the universe, but Insomniac Game’s massively popular take on the character is ready for more web slinging fun.

Marvel’s Spider-Man was a huge hit for Sony in 2018. The PlayStation 4 exclusive was beloved by critics and fans everywhere, with excellent gameplay and a deeply engaging story that left fans wanting more.

As such, a sequel is pretty much expected by everyone at this point, even if it hasn’t been officially confirmed just yet. The good news is that Bryan Intihar, Creative Director on Spider-Man might have just given us our first indication that a sequel is not only happening, but is actively being worked on as we speak.

Intihar took to Twitter to reveal he’s just handed in the first story draft of… something. Given the vague nature of this post, he could be referring to an entirely separate project, and not Spider-Man at all.

However, the optimist in me tends to think that Intihar is well aware of the implications of his tweet, and he’s simply dropping a gentle tease to get us all excited.

You’d also imagine Intihar and Insomniac would be prioritising work on a Spider-Man follow up, given the buckets of money it made. The rest of Twitter also seemed to agree that it’s probably Spider-Man.

The ending of the first game did very much set up a number of intriguing threads for a sequel, threads that the story DLC never actually picked up. This would certainly imply Insomniac had always had multiple games in mind for this version of Spider-Man.

Of course, even if work has begun on Marvel’s Spider Man 2, I don’t expect we’ll be seeing it for a long while. In fact, I probably wouldn’t bank on seeing it until the PlayStation 5 rolls around.
