Just when you thought Nintendo were back on form when they announced that Star Fox Zero would be heading to the Wii U this year, they’ve pushed the game back from November to early 2016. Bummer.

If you’ve never played Star Fox, you’ve missed out. It’s easily one of the best showings for the Japanese gaming giants on the Super Nintendo and the Nintendo 64 (we’ll not mention Star Fox Adventures on the Gamecube) and the thought of having it on a modern day console is pretty exciting. Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a little longer to get it.

In a message on facebook, Shigeru Miyamoto stated:

We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year. Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas… While we have already reached the stage where it would be technically possible to release the title in time for the year-end holiday season, we want to polish the game a bit more so that players will be able to more smoothly grasp the new style of play that we are proposing.

Mr. Miyamoto also said that the Star Fox team are keen to further develop the game’s two-screen design, enhancing level design and smoothing cut-scenes.

When the game does finally come out, it will reportedly have no online play, as Nintendo are looking to have the game run at a silky 60fps. It’s not clear whether the game will have couch co-op, but hopefully you’ll be able to do barrel rolls with your friends whilst gazing nostalgicly into each other’s eyes.
