Star Wars Battlefront Getting New 40 Player Mode With Free DLC

There’s been a lot of belly-aching about Battlefront not having enough content, and rightly so, the game can feel pretty sparse. EA, for their part, are planning to appease people with a gigantic new mode coming soon.

Anybody who’s been keeping up to speed with Battlefront will know that the free Battle of Jakku DLC is dropping soon to get us all hyped before Star Wars: The Force Awakens drops into cinemas. But what’s now been revealed, is that we’re getting a new 40 player game mode called Turning Point with the update.

In Turning Point, the Rebels must locate and overtake three Imperial bases. Each time a base switches hands, more time is added for the Rebels to attack and the Imperials to defend. However, once Rebels start to capture a base, it cannot be reclaimed by the Imperials, leading to some interesting tactics.

Battlefront‘s lead level designer Dennis Brännvall explains:

Let’s say there’s only 25% left of the claim process and the Empire has managed to drive away the Rebels. This means that the Empire have to choose between defending this vulnerable point or another part of the map. The Rebels in turn need to decide where their next attack should be.

Turning Point will also feature vehicles – AT-ST’s and speeder bikes – and some degree of aerial combat.

The Battle of Jakku free DLC will be available to everybody come December 8, but those with a fancy-pants pre-order will get to play early, on December 1.
