It’s no secret that EA’s time as the exclusive owner of the license to publish Star Wars video games hasn’t been all smiles and hugs. It’s probably been the opposite in fact, whatever that would be. Tears and punches?

While there’s no forgetting the mess that was made of the Battlefront games, as well as the cancellation of a promising-sounding story driven adventure from the director of Uncharted, EA could be about to turn it all around with the reveal of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

If you haven’t heard (or just didn’t care) Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a single-player game from Respawn Entertainment, who you’ll probably know as the developers of Apex Legends or the criminally-underrated Titanfall games.

Since the game was first announced, we’ve been treated to precious little information. We know that the game is set after Revenge of the Sith and will have us playing as a Padawan who survived the Empire’s Jedi purge and is out to claim vengeance, but that’s pretty much all we know so far.

We’ve also heard that the game is aiming for a late 2019 release (presumably November, December), but we haven’t actually seen anything of the game so far.

Thankfully, that’s all set to change this weekend during this year’s Star Wars Celebration. Jedi Fallen Order will have its own reveal panel on April 13 at 7:30pm (UK time). Hopefully, this is where we’ll get our first real look at gameplay, and maybe even a release date.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed late last year that Jedi Fallen Order was very far along into development, and plays “spectacularly well.” While I’m sure he says that about every game EA makes (because that’s his job), I’m desperate to believe him.

It’s been far too long since we’ve had a genuinely incredible single player Star Wars game, and Respawn has proven itself to be a talented and versatile developer. I’ll be approaching Saturday’s reveal with cautious optimism – but if I see one thing that even vaguely resembles a microtransaction, I’m out.
