The Biggest Halloween Events And Updates Of 2016

The Halloween season is with us. The pumpkins are ready to picked from the pumpkin tree, while the local children are preparing to either beg for chocolate like little hobos or vandalise property like little shits.

To be clear, I don’t actually think there’s a pumpkin tree. We all know they fall from the sky around October 5 right?

Anyway, let’s take a look at some of the biggest Halloween themed events and updates coming to your favourite videogames over the next few weeks.

DC Universe Online

DC Universe Online is both free, and surprisingly, way better than you’d imagine a free MMO based on DC characters would be.

If you’ve never tried it before, there’s no better time to dive in than Halloween, with themed outfits, missions, and your hero/villain HQ all decked out for the spooky season. It’s available from now till October 31.

Destiny

You’ve got a raisin to play Destiny this Halloween (you’ll get that if you played the game). Bungie has now announced this year’s Festival of the Lost, which runs from now until November 8.

Expect new masks, shaders, emotes, and a broomstick themed sparrow. Of course, there are also a ton of new missions to complete.

Dying Light

Being a game about surviving in a world overrun by zombies, there’s already plenty of creepy stuff to be had in Dying Light.

Regardless, between October 28 and October 30, we can get stuck into the Zombiefest event. Simply joining in will net you a gold-tier weapon- fancy.

Elder Scrolls Online

Head over to the The Elder Scrolls Online’s in-game store to grab yourself a free Crow Caller item between now and November 1 to kick off a quest called The Witchmother’s Bargain.

Completing this quest grants you access to a number of Halloween themed items, none more interesting than a cauldron that can turn you and your friends into undead monsters.

FIFA 17

I’m not sure anyone expected (or indeed asked for) FIFA 17 to try its hand at a Halloween event, but EA Sports is giving it a go regardless.

To be fair, the ‘Ultimate Scream’ pun alone has won me over, even if the central concept of ‘frighteningly good’ player boosts is pretty weak.

Grand Theft Auto V

While we stare out of the window and long for some kind of single-player DLC for GTA V, we can of course all be completely un-surprised by the fact that the online mode is getting something.

Between October 28 and November 7, there’ll be an event in which devils take on angels. Also featured will be themed vehicles, weapons, and outfits.

Overwatch

We’ve spoken about Blizzard’s plans for Overwatch this Halloween before, and it seems the FPS/MOBA hybrid has a lot to offer in the coming weeks.

Between now and November 1, there are over 100 themed skins, emotes, victory poses, and voice lines, as well as a cool new mission that turns your favourite characters into riffs on famous monsters.

Pokemon GO

For that guy over there in the corner that’s still playing Pokemon GO, between October 26 and November 1, ‘spooky’ Pokemon such as Gastly and Zubat will appear more frequently.

Because what every Pokemon GO player wants is a massive surge in Zubat activity.

Rocket League

Similar to last year, Rocket League will offer up a slew of new Halloween-themed items between now and November 1.

My favourite by far is the lil’ ghost topper. Look at it! Bloody adorable.

That’s not all, by the way. There are tons of other Halloween events coming to all kinds of games, including World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Team Fortress 2, Street Fighter V, Company of Heroes 2, and Black Desert Online.

All in all, there’s a lot to look forward to between now and Halloween. Let’s just hope the killer clowns don’t break in and murder you while you’re busy gaming.
