Netflix recently unveiled a first look at Henry Cavill as the iconic Geralt of Rivia for their upcoming live-action Witcher series, and it’s safe to say the internet has certainly… reacted.
Fans of both the video game franchise and series of novels on which the games are based have reacted with everything from apathy, to disgust, to optimism, to – obviously – a strong thirst to see Cavill reenact the bathtub scene.
Take a look at what some people had to say below. Be warned, there are lot of jokes about Cavill’s wig.

I remember when people would hype up Henry Cavill as Gerald of Rivia, and even make some fan art of it. What they expected vs what they got. pic.twitter.com/H5Y98LAdF5

I’m sorry, but is Henry Cavill supposed to be Geralt…. or Raiden? pic.twitter.com/XJINEkuAjq

It’s certainly not all bad though – a lot of people have weighed in to express their excitement for The Witcher on Twitter.
YOOOOOOOO. Henry Cavill as the Witcher looks FANTASTIC. I’m now excited as all hell for this.

A lot of people are complaining that Henry Cavill doesn’t have a beard and therefore looks nothing like Geralt. But Geralt hasn’t always had a beard. :S pic.twitter.com/8CW66nny3y

There are also an alarming number of people complaining about Geralt’s lack of beard but frankly I refuse to give those criticisms any credence, as if the presence of facial hair will make or break a series.
Recently, it was announced that Cavill would be joined by Freya Allan (Into The Badlands) and Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust), who will take on the roles of Ciri and Yennefer respectively when The Witcher airs in 2019.
Cavill is a self confessed fan of the series, and according to showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, he was always one of their first choices to take on the role. Regardless of your thoughts on the look, let’s all wait and see how he actually does in the role before we judge him too much.
Those Legolas Tweets are gold though, to be fair.
