Konami know you love playing Castlevania – that’s why they’re giving us a new Netflix animated series based on the vampire busting game franchise, because that’s close enough, right?
While official details are thin on the ground right now, we do know that a Netflix press release lists something called Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 as launching in 2017.
We also know that the creative team is actually surprisingly strong, with talent such as comic book veteran Warren Ellis and Adi Shankar, who recently put together an excellent Power Rangers short film, which you can see below.
An official description reads:
Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series is from Frederator Studios, a Wow Unlimited Media company, written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert, and Adi Shankar.
Seibert – who produces Adventure Time – hinted back in December that he was working on a project ‘based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years.’
Shankar meanwhile, took to Facebook to describe the series as ‘dark, and satirical’ and promised to ‘flip the vampire on its head’.
Christ knows we have enough vampire shows out there, so the gang really are gonna need to do something a little different with Castlevania.
Also, Konami, the last game in the series was three years ago, so do you think maybe it’s time to give us a new one? Please and thank you.
