The Razer Toaster Is Finally Becoming Reality, After Five YearsRazer

Dread it, run from it, but eventually the Razer Toaster comes for us all. What was once a simple April Fool’s joke has now transformed into one of the most desired, inventive, and genuinely ridiculous concepts in gaming.

The seeds for the toaster were originally sewn back in 2013, when fans jokingly asked gaming peripherals company Razer and its CEO Min-Liang Tan for an officially branded bread heating device. In April 2016, Project Breadwinner was announced – though it was unfortunately nothing more than a playful prank.

Of course, the ridiculousness of the concept never stopped the Facebook group known as Give us the Razer Toaster, which formed in 2013, from fearlessly campaigning to make the toaster a reality. The point of the page was simple. As discussed with Tan himself, if the page made it to one million likes, the CEO would ensure that work on an official Razer toaster began.

The page’s creator, Mark, said of the long-running campaign:

I started Team Toaster as a way for us to come together, share memes, share news, discuss strategies and for you all to have a say. If you want to help this page and community, the best way to do that is by being involved in Team Toaster. Yes it’s legit. Yes this whole movement is actually not a joke. I will continue to fight for this. My biggest hope is that Min-Liang Tan or Razer will notice more of our plight and support us in more ways.

Well, after five long years those crazy SOBs finally did it. Tan shared the group’s victory video (above) last night on Facebook with his own statement on their success, saying that it was time to stay true to his word and put together his own team of designers and engineers.

Tan said:

Alright – I didn’t think these guys were going to make it – but they did. It was to hit 1M likes and with each Razer Toaster tattoo being equivalent to 100K likes each….and they now have 12 Razer Toaster tattoos. Well….what can I say. I’ve just officially liked their page – and I’m going to put together my team of designers and engineers. It will take a few years – but I’ll be sure to share the progress – and make it a community affair. A Razer Toaster – For Razer Toaster Lovers. By Razer Toaster Lovers

It’s unclear when the Razer Toaster will officially be on the market, but now isn’t the time for such details. Right now, let’s just extend a big congratulations to Mark, Tan, and every single person at Give us the Razer Toaster who made this ridiculous joke an actual thing after five long years.
