A cool 30 minute “one shot” demo for the Resident Evil 2 remake was recently released, offering players a brief window to explore a zombie-infested Raccoon City Police Department.

You can run through the demo as many times as you can beat it, but once the half hour is done, that’s your lot until you buy the full game. PC gamers being PC gamers have obviously already found various hacks around this 30 minute timer, and console gamers are just setting up new profiles as a workaround.

As you can imagine, this has led to a small (and likely short-lived) community that are now busy speedrunning through the teaser. The current record is an impressive 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Check it out below.

While you have the whole of the Raccoon City Police Department to explore, there isn’t actually that much you need to see or do before getting everything you need to beat the demo.

This has inspired intrepid players to dart from each key objective and item as quickly as possible, which is fair enough. I can guarantee that if I were trapped in a dark building full of zombies IRL, you wouldn’t catch me exploring rooms for the fun of it.

Resident Evil 2 is a reimagining of the 1998 survival horror classic of the same name, and launches on January 25, a little over two decades since the original.

Based on what we’ve played already, this is one fans of horror games – and great games in general – will want to keep an eye on.
