Everybody likes The Sims, and there isn’t a person in the entire world who has a problem with free stuff, so it’s my pleasure to inform you that The Sims 4 is available for free on EA’s Origin platform right now.

To claim the game, all you need to do is head over to the Origin site, sign in with your account (or create one if you don’t have one), and hit that lovely orange button that says “get it free”. It’s worth noting that the version of The Sims 4 you get is the standard edition with no DLC, but free is free, so quit your bellyaching.

The promotion appears to be live in all countries. I’ve just checked from the UK and have had no problems grabbing the game, so if you haven’t picked up The Sims 4 before now and fancy wasting a weekend building the ideal home and family just like you can’t in real life, now’s your chance.

There have apparently been some issues getting the game through the Origin launcher, but if you attempt to grab the game via the site (right here), you shouldn’t have any trouble. If you do have trouble, well… I can’t help you. Message EA support or something, it’s not my problem.

The Sims 4 launched back in 2014 and received fairly mixed reviews, with many criticising the lack of in-game content, especially when compared the last game in the series. Bugs that ruined the experience also did nothing to help alleviate early criticisms.

Thankfully, the game has gotten a hell of a lot better in the last five years, with plenty of new content, expansions, and general fixes implemented to make The Sims 4 one of the better sim experiences out there.

The Sims 4 is still getting new content added all the time, too. Most recently, EA added a first-person mode to the game that is absolutely more horrifying than it needed to be, but if you ever wanted to see what it’s like to woo-hoo with a Sim in first-person, then you’re in luck. Weirdo.

Whether you decide to play in first-person or in the manner that God intended, don’t miss out on the chance to grab the game for free while you still can, as it’s unclear how long this offer will last.
