The Witcher 3 Has A Secret Ghost Ship Almost Nobody Knew About

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a big bloody game. How big? Well, it turns out that even three years later, CD Projekt Red can reveal a secret that apparently nobody ever managed to find.

The series’ official Twitter account posted a fun Witcher fact the other day, announcing that at a certain time of night on the choppy seas of Skellige, a mysterious ghost ship will appear – but only for a moment.

Needless to say, it turns out this was news to pretty much everyone. If you’ve played The Witcher 3, you’ll know that Skellige is a massive region with a huge ocean to sail across, so it makes sense that the majority of players would never have been in the right place at the right time to see the ghostly sight.

Still, that’s a combined thousands of hours of play between all of us, so it is crazy impressive that three years on so many of us were all genuinely surprised to learn of this sneaky Easter egg.

As it turns out, there were actually quite a few players that didn’t even realise whales would occasionally emerge from Skellige’s depths to splash around. I think it’s fair to say that the ocean of Skellige is probably the most under-explored area of The Witcher 3, so perhaps its time we banded together and really tried to discover what lies beneath its inky black waters?

Obviously, this is all the excuse I need to head back in and play through The Witcher 3 for… *checks notes* the fourth time. Like I needed a reason.
