While we wait for an official trailer to drop, Netflix has finally shared a proper look at Superman star Henry Cavill in his full Geralt of Rivia getup, as part of the the live-action series based on The Witcher.
We’d previously seen a few rough test images of Cavill’s Geralt, which didn’t seem to go down too well with the internet. These new shots, with Cavill in full makeup and costume, plus the added benefit of some gorgeous scenery in the background, are much more encouraging.
Take a look at him below. Isn’t he handsome? Oh he is though, isn’t he?
The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich also shared a gorgeous, moody new poster for the adaptation, which you can take a look at below. If you’re like me, you might be ready to kick off about the fact that Geralt doesn’t have two swords in the poster (which he carries with him at all times in the games), but I was gently reminded that the Netflix show is based on the original novels, not the CD Projekt RED trilogy.
As such, Geralt does have two swords, but prefers to keep one (his silver sword) with his horse most of the time. That’s according to people currently arguing on ResetEra, anyway – I’m really no expert on the books, I’m afraid, but I can’t imagine Cavill’s lack of extra sword was a mistake.

Honestly, after the leaked set photos of that seriously dodgy Nilfgaardian armour appeared online, I was starting to have my doubts, but it looks like all we needed was a little patience and faith (and professionally shot photographs).
Oh but wait, there’s more! Netlifx also shared a look at two other very important characters in Witcher lore; Yennefer and Ciri.
Yennefer is Geralt’s occasional love interest, but more importantly a bad-ass sorceress. She’s being played by Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust). Meanwhile, Ciri is Geralt’s adopted daughter and aspiring monster slayer for hire. She’s being played by Freya Allan (Into The Badlands).
Again, if you’ve only played the games and remember Ciri as a slightly older young adult, do remember that the books on which the show is based spend a lot of time on Ciri as a younger girl. You can take a look at the two heroines below.

The Witcher wrapped filming back in May, and its first season will reportedly run for eight episodes. It’s expected to premiere on Netflix late 2019, and these official shots surely mean a trailer is coming any day now. Hopefully.
