We’ve got some bad news for fans of cowboy based larceny and bloodshed but didn’t worry too much because with every cloud comes a silver lining.

We’ll start with the bad news because there’s less of that. The sequel to everyone’s favourite cowboy simulator Red Dead Redemption has been pushed back to Spring 2018.

It’s sad we know, but trust us it might just be worth the wait.

It seems that the games been delayed because the developers want the game to be 4k compatible, meaning gamers can play it on their shiny new Microsoft Scorpio and the Sony PS4 Pro consoles.

The CEO of distributors Take-Two Interactive said:

The purpose of the delay of Red Dead Redemption 2 is to make sure we deliver the most extraordinary experience we’re capable of providing. We haven’t run into particular [technical] issues [with development], and we are building Red Dead Redemption 2 as a new game from the ground up for the first time for the new generation of consoles.

The pressure that we put on ourselves to deliver excellence and delight consumers is extraordinary. So we want to make sure the appropriate time is taken to ensure we can do the best job we can. I think that’s what consumers expect from Rockstar Games, and that’s what Rockstar Games typically delivers.

So we emphatically support the label’s decision [to delay the game], and we’re utterly confident that time will prove that decision to be wise first and foremost creatively and artistically and economically as well.

Of course it’s annoying that the we won’t get our hands on the game when we thought we would but you can tell from screenshots how amazing the game looks and we’re willing to bet Rockstar won’t let us down in the game play department either.

We’ll know more about the game this summer presumably around E3 in mid-June so expect something amazing then.
