Titanfall’s Future Uncertain, Says Dev

Titanfall 2 has gone down an absolute storm with pretty much everyone who’s played it so far – unfortunately, that might not be enough to guarantee a sequel.

Despite developer Respawn Entertainment having plenty of ideas for sequels, it would seem that even they are currently unsure as to whether or not they’ll get the chance to make them.

In a recent interview with Glixel, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella was asked if the studio will make a Titanfall 3 – but while has garnered universal critical praise, the executive said it’s just too soon to say how well the game has done from a sales perspective.

He explained:

We don’t know yet. The game is, critically, a huge success. We’re really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it’s too early to tell. We’d definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we’ll explore more of it.

At that point in the interview, EA publicist Devin Bennett stepped in to clarify that all EA is ‘committed to the franchise.’

‘So, whatever the f*** that means,’ Zampella replied.

In fairness, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said earlier this week that the company plans to take a long-term approach with Titanfall, meaning immediate sales aren’t necessarily a focus.

Of course, it probably wasn’t the best idea for EA to put out Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 so damn close together – but I guess that’s neither here nor there at this point.
