Ubisoft Statement Confirms No New Assassin’s Creed In 2016

Ubisoft have announced that they’ll be taking a little bit of a break from the core Assassin’s Creed franchise. There’ll be no new game in the main line throughout 2016, much to the delight of fans who feel the series just hasn’t been up to snuff of late.

There have been rumblings for a while now, but this is the first official word we’ve had on the matter. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed the series is getting a year off to give Assassin’s Creed a “brand new dimension”.

Ubisoft shared a little more info on their decision in a blog post:

Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.

While there won’t be a main game for a while, Ubisoft obviously can’t let a whole year go by without squeezing some money out of their popular franchise. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles are a series of three new portable entries, and the Assassin’s Creed movie comes out in December.

Word on the street is that the next core game in the series will be set in Egypt and is reportedly called Assassin’s Creed Empire.
