Uncharted 4 Breaks Phenomenal Sales Record In Opening Week

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has surprised virtually no-one and gone on to become both a critical and commercial smash.

Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that worldwide sales during the game’s first week of release topped a hefty 2.7 million copies.

That figure represents copies sold to consumer for both physical and digital copies from May 10-16.

Sony haven’t shared the sales numbers by region, but did say that in North America, Uncharted 4 is now the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation 4 game ever.

As it turns out, delaying the game from April 26 to May 10 was absolutely the right call. Sony needed the time to manufacture extra copies of the game to meet “considerable worldwide demand” – and going by the numbers, said demand was indeed considerable.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Asad Qizilbash wrote on the PlayStation Blog:

A huge congratulations goes out to Naughty Dog for an incredible feat. The success of the game is a testament to the caliber of the team at Naughty Dog and their unwavering commitment to their fans. Most of all, we wanted to give a special thank you to all of you who joined us so far on this incredible adventure, and have embarked with us on Nathan Drake’s final, wild ride.

Meanwhile, if you still aren’t sure whether or not to jump in to Nathan’s last hurrah (for now), you can read our Uncharted 4 review, or catch up on the story so far here.

Let’s be honest: with sales figures like this, Uncharted 5 is pretty much a foregone conclusion as far as Sony is concerned.
