Time for some good and bad news regarding the Uncharted movie, which has suffered in development hell for what feels like an age now.
The bad news: Comingsoon.net reports that Sony Pictures has dropped the big screen adaptation from its release calendar – the film previously had a somewhat optimistic release date of June 30, 2017.
The good news (which is admittedly outweighed by the bad news) is that the project’s screenwriter recently teased that the mooted ‘action heavy’ opening scene is really good – at least on paper.
The Uncharted movie’s script is being written by Joe Carahan (The Grey, The A-Team). Carnahan also expressed interest in directing the movie too, though it’s not clear if he is now attached in that capacity.
Carnahan is currently directing 2018’s Bad Boys for Life, leading some to speculate that this could be why the Uncharted movie has lost a release date.
While the Uncharted movie doesn’t currently have any actors attached, it does have producers in the form of Charles Roven, Avi Arad, and Alex Gartner.
As long as we get some kind of cameo from Nolan North (the voice of star Nathan Drake in the games), I’ll be happy. Maybe go back in time and get a younger Nathan Fillion to take on the role – that’d do nicely.
Uncharted 4 was the most recent (and final) game in the treasure hunting franchise – but I can’t imagine for one second that Sony would put a movie out without some kind of game to complement it.
