Ah, card games. Entertaining? Massively, but also a major source of betrayal and conflict within any particular family or friendship group.
Ask anyone, as soon as those cards come out, all loyalties are lost as the rules of friendship go out the window, only to be replaced by the strict rules of the game.
But what if I told you you’ve been playing by the wrong rules all this time? Prepare to have your world views shattered as UNO has confirmed the real rules of the game, and I am shook.
Taking to social media over the weekend, the makers of the game decided to clear up something which we never even knew needed clearing up. Because it turns out we’ve been playing UNO wrong this entire time.
Just in case you’re a bit rusty on the ol’ UNO, let me refresh your memory. So you know how annoying it is when the person in front of you puts down a +4 card? Like, how disrespectful can they get? Do they not know I’m trying to win the game here?!
Well, usually if we’re lucky enough to have a +2 card in our pack, we (yes, we – I’m looking at all of you) simply put that down on the pile to make the next player draw six. It’s only fair, right?
This is definitely not allowed – as UNO confirmed this weekend (May 4) by setting the record straight once and for all.
Informing their followers they know we’ve been trying to pull it off for years, the official Twitter account for the game said – in no uncertain terms – that stacking is not allowed in this situation.
The tweet read:
If someone puts down a +4 card, you must draw 4 and your turn is skipped. You can’t put down a +2 to make the next person Draw 6. We know you’ve tried it. #UNO
Basically, if that happens to you you just have to accept the fact that you’re now four cards richer and to top it all off now have to skip your turn. So, yeah, it’s not great news.

Obviously, people didn’t take the news well. I mean, duh. We’ve been playing this way for years, how do they just expect us to change our methods now?!
The tweet has attracted more than 1.3K comments since it got posted two days ago, mostly from people berating UNO for thinking it was acceptable to post such a thing.
While one person called them out for lying, others said the creators of UNO don’t even know how to play the game, with one saying, ‘You really don’t know how to play the game you made up, but it’s ok’. Harsh but true.
