Before we begin, I should point out that we’ll be getting into slightly spoilery territory for Uncharted 4.
You okay with that? Awesome. So Nolan North, the man who’s played treasure hunting hero Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series revealed in an interview with Vulture that he’d definitely be up for doing Uncharted 5.
While developer Naughty Dog has previously said that Uncharted 4 is definitely their last game in the series, they did acknowledge that another developer could take on the franchise somewhere down the line, and North seems to be on board with that.
He said:
Depending on how much money this game makes, Sony might want to do another one with another studio. And I would certainly come back.
While it would be awesome to see Drake back in the saddle for another adventure, Uncharted 4 kind of ties things up and serves as a beautiful full stop to his adventures.
I guess if they really wanted another Nathan Drake fronted Uncharted, they could potentially take things into the far future and have him take on a kind of Sully/mentor role. But what seems more likely is using Nate and Elena’s daughter Cassie to further the franchise.
Alternatively, they could go down the prequel route. They did something similar with Uncharted: The Golden Abyss for PS Vita back in 2011.
Going by the adoring reception Uncharted 4 has received, I’d put good money on Uncharted 5 happening sooner or later. I just hope they find a way to make it work without ruining Nathan Drake’s wonderful arc over the last four games.
