Sony will be holding its second ever State of Play livestream tonight, in which we can expect to get a couple of brief but (hopefully) exciting updates regarding impending releases for PlayStation.
The show is expected to last around ten minutes, and will give us a few more details on the upcoming PS4 remake of MediEvil, as well as a look at a brand new, unannounced title.
If you fancy staying up past your bedtime to take a look at what’s on the way (assuming you’re tucked in by 8pm sharp just like me), you can watch the livestream below when it kicks off at 11pm BST.
Sony’s first State of Play was a fairly underwhelming affair that focused more on a couple of new games coming to PlayStation VR. With that said, there were a few nice surprises, including an Iron Man VR title, and No Man’s Sky VR.
While only two titles have been confirmed for the show at the time of writing, there are rumblings that we’ll be getting at least one big surprise to close out the stream. A recent report from an industry insider with previous form in predicting Sony announcements has suggested that a title announced “long ago” is set to be re-revealed during tonight’s shenanigans.
While the report doesn’t specifically mention what game this could be by name, many believe this mystery re-reveal will be the Final Fantasy VII remake, which was first announced way back at E3 2015.
We already know that Final Fantasy VII director Tetsuya Nomura wanted to get Kingdom Hearts 3 out the door before focusing on Final Fantasy VII again, so the time could well be right to shine a spotlight on the anticipated remake once again.
Then there’s the fact that Square Enix recently revealed in a financial report that the company has great confidence in its 2020 fiscal year to deliver “record earnings” thanks to a release that it would talk about in the lead up to E3 2019.
Whatever surprises Sony has in store for tonight, we’ll find out soon enough. Lord, I hope it’s Final Fantasy VII though.
