The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been out for just over a year now, and to celebrate, CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski has suggested that there might never be another Witcher game.

You can’t say he doesn’t know to party.

Speaking to EurogamerIwinski confirmed that there is no more Witcher of any kind in development at the company, and there are no plans for any more.

When asked if this was the end for The Witcher series, Iwinski responded:

We honestly don’t know. We don’t have anything planned as of now to be honest on the next Witcher. As we said before, never say never [but] right now it’s really Blood and Wine. This is the end. Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won’t be any Witcher any time soon – if there ever will be one. And I would really like to see how people feel about it, if they will enjoy it.

CD Projekt recently outlined a six year plan that includes releasing the ambitious sounding Cyberpunk 2077 some time after 2017, and an entirely new triple-A RPG between 2017 and 2021 that definitely won’t have anything to do with Witcher.

Still, if this is the ultimate end for The Witcher, nobody can deny that the series is going out on a high. After 250 Game of the Year awards, and over 10 million copies shipped worldwide, it’s safe to say the game went down a treat.

Naturally, Iwinski agrees that it was a smash:

And so by far it has exceeded all of our expectations. But we don’t have such wild imaginations to imagine things like that because this is not something you can plan – it just worked. You plan for something and it either works or doesn’t and this worked much better than we planned, and we are really super happy with that.

But we still have a little more Witcher lovin’ to look forward to before the sun sets on our time with Geralt. Blood and Wine is a massive expansion for Witcher 3 that’s coming May 31, and that’s looking pretty great.

With Cyberpunk 2077 up next from CD Projekt Red, I think it’s fair to say that after Witcher 3, the weight of expectation is gonna be huge. I don’t envy them.
