Derby based developer Bulkhead Interactive have announced Battalion 1944, a new World War 2 based shooter that they’re aiming to fund through Kickstarter, and rekindle the long forgotten WW2 shooter.
Bulkhead have released an announcement trailer, showcasing some lovely looking alpha footage, inter-cut with developers talking about how great the WW2 shooter genre is and why it should definitely make a comeback.
The aim of the game is to create the most authentic experience possible, with the devs using real world locations such as the forests of Bastogne and the streets of Carentan. Weapons too, will be exclusively from the era of the game’s setting.
Joe Brammer, executive producer says:
At Bulkhead Interactive, we’ve all grown up playing classic shooters like COD2 and Medal of Honor. It’s been a decade since we last saw a great WW2 First Person Shooter, and I think the genre’s resurgence is long overdue. We’re focusing on community driven development. We want to work with passionate community of players who have a strong connection to the genre like we do.
Joe and co really want to return to the basic elements of the multiplayer FPS with this game, revealing that they’re stripping out unbalanced unlocks and “over-powered abilities”. So they’re making it less like Call of Duty, then.
The Kickstarter goal is a cool £100,000, but Bulkhead have promised to invest a minimum of £100,000 themselves if that goal is reached. If you’re sceptical, they’ve put together a pie chart (above). The true mark of a well thought out plan.
If everything goes the way Bulkhead want it to, Battalion 1994 should see a May 2017 release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
