WWE developers 2K have released a video on YouTube confirming that none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin is to be the cover Superstar on the next instalment of the game, due out 27th October 2015.
Although he’s undoubtedly a legend, the announcement has left some fans confused, as he isn’t part of the current WWE roster. The video shows the Texas Rattlesnake digging up his Heavyweight Champion of the World belt before turning to the camera with his trademark dead-eye stare.
2K have said that the 2016 edition of the popular game has 120 original wrestlers confirmed and will have a Stone Cold Attitude-Era theme. Stone Cold hasn’t appeared in wrestling circles in any meaningful way since his cameo at Wrestlemania XXX in April 2014 alongside Hulk Hogan and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. In a recent interview with MTV, Austin had this to say:
I would put myself on the same level for the wrestling/ sports entertainment industry as Jordan – but his appearance didn’t mean he was going to put the uniform on again.
So I wouldn’t go on record: don’t look forward to me putting on the trunks and knee braces to get back in the ring and stomp a mudhole in somebody and walking it dry. How’s that work for you?
Austin (50) has recently been in the Nevada desert shooting for the newest season of his television show Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge. While he denies rumors that he’ll be climbing back in the ring competitively, it doesn’t rule him out becoming involved with the franchise once again.
