While all signs from Sony might be pointing to a PlayStation 4.5 sometime soon, Xbox owners probably shouldn’t expect anything of the sort.
Xbox boss (or Xboss) Phil Spencer spoke to the press after Microsoft’s Build 2016 developer keynote last week, where he addressed a variety of topics – chief among them was the idea of an Xbox 1.5.
Spencer had this to say:
I’m not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we’re going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers. If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people – an upgrade.
Spencer clarified that he had no inside knowledge in regards to whatever Sony are up to at the moment. Word on the internet street is that they’re currently preparing an upgraded PlayStation 4 console that can handle glorious 4k resolution.
Obviously Xbox have their own plans, and clearly don’t intend to drop the news of a sudden hardware upgrade to millions upon millions of customers. I really don’t envy Sony that job.
For now, Phil Spencer and the chaps at Xbox seem to know exactly where they want to be headed in the near future. Spencer added that if they go forward with any kind of upgrade, it’d be a “really substantial change”.
