The Xbox Game Pass subscription service, which has long been one of the best things about the Xbox One, is coming to PC. Microsoft confirmed the news today, along with support from a number of top publishers.

Xbox Game Pass for PC shares a name with the Xbox One service, but will offer a slightly different lineup of games to begin with. We can still expect titles from the likes of Bethesda, Sega, Devolver, Paradox and Deep Silver though, as well as all new and upcoming Microsoft exclusives, which will launch on the program on the day of their global release.

The Xbox One Game Pass currently boasts well over 200 titles to choose from, and the PC version will reportedly have over 100 at launch. There are no details on exactly what games we can expect yet, but Microsoft has confirmed it’s working with 75 PC developers and publishers.

A Game Pass subscription on PC will also net you discounts on select games and content through the Microsoft Store, while it was also announced that Xbox exclusives will soon be made available via other digital storefronts on release, starting with Steam.

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer said in a statement:

Our intent is to make our Xbox Game Studios PC games available in multiple stores, including our own Microsoft Store on Windows, at their launch. We believe you should have choice in where you buy your PC games. We also know that there are other stores on PC, and we are working to enable more choice in which store you can find our Xbox Game Studios titles in the future.

Pricing has yet to be announced for Xbox Game Pass on PC, though Microsoft promised more details will come at E3 in a few weeks. For a rough idea, a subscription to the service on Xbox One costs £7.99 a month, which I still honestly think is ridiculous for the amount of content you get.

Spencer continued:

We know that PC gamers want to see games, so I hope you’ll join us at our annual Xbox E3 2019 Briefing on Sunday, 9th June to hear more, including the amazing lineup of new games and offers coming to PC players.

Microsoft has been busy making all sorts of moves to bridge the gap between Xbox and other platforms in the last few months, with the promise of some big news scheduled for E3.

Not only has the company confirmed it’s working to bring Xbox Live features to mobile devices and Nintendo Switch, but a PC port of the Halo Master Chief Collection – including a re-release of Reach – was announced to the delight of fans everywhere.
