YouTube Adds Much Needed Fix To Content ID System

Good news for any YouTubers out there – you’ll soon be able receive revenue made during Content ID claim disputes.

See, the current system doesn’t really benefit anyone. Here’s how it works in simple terms: If a YouTuber uploads a video, but someone else claims the video was theirs first, they get into a Content ID claim dispute.

The problem with this at the moment is that YouTube actually prevents anyone from receiving revenue while the situation is being sorted.

So, if you’ve created an amazing video that blows up and gets a shit load of views, but get embroiled in a claim dispute over said video, you’ll end up losing loads of money during however long it takes to sort the dispute.

Thankfully, YouTube have realised this is pretty lame, and have come up with an elegant solution. So elegant in fact, that I’m surprised they haven’t done it sooner.

YouTube explain the new system:

When both a creator and someone making a claim choose to monetise a video, we will continue to run ads on that video and hold the resulting revenue separately. Once the Content ID claim or dispute is resolved, we’ll pay out that revenue to the appropriate party.

Ease to the peas, yeah? There’s also a handy image explaining things below. Take a look.

This new system will apparently roll out in the coming months, and should make life much easier for everyone. Happy days are here again.
