The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. Lordy, what a truly wonderful game that is. I so clearly recall how it felt to play it for the first time. My wife wasn’t thrilled that I took it on our honeymoon, I can tell you.

Since the game launched for Nintendo Switch and Wii U way back in March 2017, I’ve managed to sink *checks Switch* 300 hours into the game across various save files, and I still don’t think I’m anywhere near done with it. I mean, the Master Cycle DLC alone kept me going for at least another 50 hours.

While I’ve never played Nintendo’s epic open world adventure on PC (via emulation, of course), I am massively intrigued by the huge amount of weird and wonderful mods available for the game.

I’ve seen everyone from GTA’s CJ to Thomas the Tank Engine exploring Hyrule in Link’s stead thanks to the ingenuity of modders, but this newest effort might just be my favourite yet. It literally brings a whole new perspective to the most recent Zelda by putting (almost) the entire game in first person.

This gorgeous new mod switches back to third person whenever Link is climbing or swimming, for reasons of practicality, but for the most part you can immerse yourself in the wilds Hyrule better than ever before.

Combat and exploration can all be done in first person, while more complex combat actions such as locking on and dodging automatically switch the view back to third person briefly. It’s all super intuitive, and the mod even lets the game run at 60fps in whatever resolution you like. It’s stunning stuff, and you can see it in action below.

Looking at the above video, I can appreciate more than ever just what a good looking game Breath of the Wild is. The way the deep green grass sways in the wind, and the fog effects deep in the lost woods are particularly eye catching in first person.

Thrillingly, this new mod can actually be used with the new VR update for Breath of the Wild on Switch which was originally released for the Labo cardboard kit, meaning this is the closest we’ve ever been to an official, full Zelda game in virtual reality.

If you want to try out this impressive mod for yourself (and I sincerely wish I had that option, to be honest) you can so by heading over it’s official page and following the installation instructions. Do that right here.
